On Wednesday, October 14th, Future of Florida Forum attendees were presented with the game plan for how to defeat Amendment 4 in November 2010. I moderated a panel composed of Ryan Houck, executive director of Floridians for Smarter Growth, and Jacob Stuart, president and CEO of the Central Florida Partnership.
After I gave an overview of the history of the special interest efforts to get "Hometown Democracy" into Florida's constitution, Ryan Houck talked about the nature of the amendment and detailed the campaign plan to defeat it. Jacob Stuart discussed the importance of local and regional collaboration in mobilizing against this amendment, and the need for more counties to get engaged in the statewide campaign through their local and regional Floridians for Smarter Growth committees.
I concluded the presentation by outlining the 5 things Florida Chamber members can do to help in the fight against Amendment 4:
1. Get involved in your local and regional FSG stakeholder groups;
2. Encourage other state and local associations to get engaged with FSG;
3. Request the Florida Chamber or FSG to give a presentation to your organization or company;
4. Communicate with employees, co-workers, and friends about Amendment through www.florida2010.org; and
5. Contribute financially to Floridians for Smarter Growth.
