In mid-2006, the chair of the Florida Chamber Foundation, John Zumwalt, asked the Foundation's trustees to consider an expansion of the context of the term affordable housing. Looking back at the Cornerstone (1989) and New Cornerstone (2003) Foundation projects - both economic blueprints for Florida - the Foundation determined that the conversation needed to pivot on the concept of Affordable Living. With trustee approval and the formation of a Stakeholders Caucus of experts, agencies, not-forprofits,and public-private organizations, The Florida Summit on Affordable Living: Attainable Housing was created.
